The Hermann Hesse Museum Montagnola celebrates Siddhartha with a 3-day performance exhibition
Friday 23–Sunday 25 September 2022 · Centro esposizioni, Lugano
This year the Museum Hermann Hesse Montagnola will be present at the WopArt art fair with a pop-up exhibition with a contemporary-performance approach dedicated to Siddhartha's centennial.
The curator and his team have designed a program that includes meditation, performance and dance, presenting texts and information about Siddhartha. The aim is to devote themselves and the audience to Siddhartha's search for fullness of being and inner peace in the present moment, with the intention of creating a contrast to the hustle and bustle of the fair, offering an opportunity for spiritual relaxation with Hesse.
The central question is: How do we read Hesse's work 100 years after its publication, and what thoughts does it inspire in a contemporary context? With this format, the Museum wants to dedicate the pop-up exhibition to being, the experience and the search for one's individuality, in the spirit of the novel's protagonist. A visit to the Hermann Hesse Montagnola Museum's exhibition will be a holistic and sensory experience for visitors: they will be invited to read aloud excerpts from Siddhartha, listen to unfamiliar voices and, under the guidance of the yoga and meditation studio Studio Laterale, sense their own inner state. Finally, choreographer Simea Cavelti will translate passages from Siddhartha into dance. The program and more information will be available from Sept. 19 at www.hessemontagnola.ch.
