Hermann Hesse (2.7.1877 - 9.8.1962) and Friedrich Dürrenmatt (5.1.1921-14.12.1990) never knew each other, yet some affinities link them. Both of them had German as their mother tongue and both chose a different cultural environment as their adoptive home: for Hesse it was Ticino, and for Dürrenmatt it was Western Switzerland. As for Dürrenmatt, painting and drawing had an existential meaning also for Hesse.
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Friedrich Dürrenmatt's birth, Madeleine Betschart, director of the Centre Dürrenmatt Neuchâtel and Regina Bucher, director of the Museum Hermann Hesse in Montagnola, will discuss and exchange thoughts and reflections on these two great Swiss artists and answer questions from the audience.
