Talk
Friday 2 June 2023, 19.00 · In collaboration with the literary festival POESTATE, Lugano
The second event of the series Hesse Now - Una biblioteca della letteratura universale will be held in the framework of the international literature festival POESTATE in Lugano.
In 1929, Hermann Hesse published an overview of the books that, in his opinion, should never be missing from a personal library. He called his curated selection A Library of World Literature. Since then, the literary canon has changed in many ways: the geographical focus has widened and many works by women who were still misunderstood at the time have gladly become part of today‘s literary history. What should be added to Hesse's library of world literature? What might no longer be relevant? Poet and philosopher Stella N'Djoku discusses with her guests which books they deem to be significantly important. Hence, in conversation with her guests, the presenter explores all continents in the light and spirit of a new century.
